The paintings of Chen Xiangxun are full of great vitality, illustrating the artist's rich painting meanings. Firstly, the lyricism and relaxation displayed in his work 'Jiangnan Series' is a combination of tradition and modernity by disintegrating and re-composing the traditional brush work. Secondly, the work "Studio Series" is a large painting in ink and acrylic without colour. Using dark ink as a dominant tone and textural stroke as a principal structure, the artist disintegrated the traditional symbols of landscape painting to create a new pictorial language. As Chen started to pronounce his subjective art concepts, his works are full of subjective will in 1989, Chen painted a series of works named ' Scriptpainting Series' by assimilating the archaic scripts in rubbing style and seal marks. The works in this paste-up style convey a sense of historical legacy. Recently, Chen pursued a new artistic area by painting a series of flowers and still life in strong contrasting colour. The images are all symbolized by and stylized. The pictorial elements are then graphically assembled with the sense of delicacy and uniformity. His works are thus considered mature and innovative.
