The Paintings of Fu Baoshi
Fu Baoshi (1904-1965), a great master in Chinese art, excelled not only in calligraphy, painting and seal carving, but also archived great success in connoisseurship, art history and theory, and education, His works, imbued with passion, deep feeling, and creative techniques, and all fine pieces with unique style. Receiving much inspiration from the Qing master Shitao's works on landscape, he liked to employ dry textural strokes and paid special attention to spatial arrangement and the balance of dark and light ink tones to achieve a sense of perspective. He was also skilful in painting figures and his treatment of facial features, especially their eyes, became one of his characteristics.
Most of the works compiled here are those fine treasures donated by his wife, Luo Shihui, to the Nanjing Museum, and are now published so that the public an enjoy the great artistic achievements of Fu Baoshi in calligraphy, painting and seal carving
