Zhang Daqian (1899-1983), native of Neijiang,
Sichuan, and settled in Taiwan in 1977, Zhang was a prominent painter who devotedhis early years to traditional painting, developed a style of purity andsubtle elegance in his middle age, and invented the free and vigorous"splash colour" technique in his later years. Mastering of the Chinese palette, he excelled particularly in using light reddish-brown andblue-and-green pigments. |
